Sushil Kumar Modi, a veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar for a long time, was taken away by cancer. Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi died in Delhi on Monday night. On the 3rd of last month, he announced his retirement from active politics after giving information about having cancer. Former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi was suffering from throat cancer. He was undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
Last message in public life
Sushil Kumar Modi gave his last message for public life on 03 April. He wrote on social media – “I have been struggling with cancer for the last six months. Now I felt that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the Prime Minister. Country, Bihar and Always grateful and always dedicated to the party.” After writing this, when Sushil Modi came to Bihar, his supporters were shocked to see his condition at the airport. His body suddenly collapsed. After this, when many BJP stalwarts came to meet him at his residence, his family members refused to take his photograph.
Sushil Modi was one of the trinity of JP movement
Sushil Modi, Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad were known as the triumvirate that emerged after the JP movement. Sushil Modi was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since the beginning. In 1971, Sushil Modi started his political career from student politics. After this, his recognition as a youth leader reached the state politics through the university. In the year 1990, Sushil contested the assembly elections and won and became MLA. After this, his stature kept increasing in the politics of Bihar.
Went to Lok Sabha after winning from Bhagalpur in 2004
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Sushil Modi became MP from Bhagalpur on BJP ticket. In 2005, he resigned from Parliament membership and became Deputy Chief Minister in the Government of Bihar. Legislative Council Since then he was a member of the Legislative Council. Sushil Modi was the Finance Minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020. In the year 2020, when the National Democratic Alliance government was formed again in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wanted Sushil Modi to become the Deputy CM. But, the top leadership of BJP sent him to Rajya Sabha. Till the time of announcement of cancer, he was a Rajya Sabha MP. His tenure also ended last month itself.
